About a year ago, I received a call for a storage unit cleanout. It was in a town about 15 minutes from me, and from the pictures, I knew there might be some good items. When I arrived, the owner of the storage unit and her friend decided it was a good time to start looking over everything before giving me the green light to clean out the unit. I was patient with her and told her to take her time. I followed behind her, removing the items that she had already cleared for me to take. Right off the bat, I came across two crocks from the early 1900s. One was 20 gallons, and the other was 12. She said, “You can fetch a pretty penny for those.” I double-checked to make sure she didn’t want them, and she said they were all mine. That was the first score of the day, but it was just the beginning.

As we were getting close to the back of the storage unit, I could hear my employee gasp. I was intrigued and asked him what he found. It was a collection of gold-plated silver duck stamps, roughly 50 of them. I estimated their worth to be in the neighborhood of $300, a pretty great find! But then we saw what was at the bottom of the box…

We pulled out a brown box that looked pretty fancy. When we opened it, our eyes lit right up! It was a collection of Canadian silver coins for the 1976 Olympics, as close as I will probably ever get to real treasure! This beauty will sit in the safe until it’s time to pass it down to my son. One day when he looks at this, he will remember his father, the treasure hunter… I mean, junk man…
